Successful Breastfeeding ideas:

  • Positioning matters – Get comfortable, both of you, or all three (or four) of you depending on how many babies you birthed. Use pillows to support your back, neck and arms. You might be there a while.
  • Latch and relax – I heard this so many times and boy oh boy did I overthink it. If the baby can successfully have your entire nipple and areola firmly grippled into his/her mouth, you’ve nailed it. If, however, your baby has lips around your nipple, keep working on it. Doesn’t mean it’s wrong, just means your baby might be working harder than needed for a full tummy.
  • Feeding frequently – 13 times in a day one time and I thought that was crazy, turns out its totally normal. So, get comfy. Watch for your babies’ signals.
  • Empty those beautiful milk makers (breasts) – One at a time. Allow bub to finish feeding on one breast before switching. This helps the baby get the hindmilk which is rich is all your goodness. But if your nipple is hurting, switch and apply the balm.
  • Stay hydrated – Keep drinking water, watermelon, cucumbers. Anything high in water content and nutrients will support milk flow.

And if you’re busily preparing to welcome your baby into the world, or getting ready to celebrate your bestie who is due to birth, our friends at Partum Panties have great products to support you.
