Need a Good Cleanse?
I’m a carb lover, and sugar is my guilty pleasure. Unfortunately, the feeling isn’t mutual. Over the last few months, I noticed my skin and gut health taking a turn for the worse. Between poor food choices, a lack of routine, and stress, things spiralled out of control. That’s when I decided to do something about it. I embarked on a 7-day liver cleanse, hoping to hit the reset button on my body.
Why a Liver Cleanse?
You may be wondering, “Why a liver cleanse?” Well, here’s the deal—our liver plays a huge role in our overall health, from digestion to immune support and even skin health. For me, the signs were hard to ignore: bloating, discomfort, severe indigestion, acne popping up in unfamiliar places, and general health issues I’d never dealt with before. My liver was in distress, and I had to do something to fix it.
A healthy liver is essential for digestion, managing skin issues, and boosting immune function. I’ve always preached self-care to others, so it was pretty disappointing to realise I’d been neglecting my own health. But better late than never!
My Experience on the Cleanse
Fast forward to today, and I’m on day six of my cleanse. The meal plan has been strict—no complex carbs, no refined sugar, no dairy, and no gluten. The first few days were tough. I experienced withdrawal symptoms from all the toxins leaving my body—headaches, mood swings, and intense cravings. But by day four, things started turning around. My bloating subsided, my skin started clearing up, my energy levels improved, and I felt lighter overall.
One of the most surprising benefits? I’m eating less because the food I’m consuming is more nourishing. Without complex carbs weighing me down, I feel fuller for longer and save money while doing it! I bought a big box of fresh produce from the farmers’ market and paired it with chicken and pork, all without breaking the bank.
Another interesting aspect of the cleanse is that it’s free of red meat. I’m not a huge fan of red meat, but when you can’t have something, suddenly you start craving it. Still, I’ve been enjoying the rainbow of fruits and vegetables I’ve been eating—and I feel amazing because of it.
What Happens After the Cleanse?
I have no intention of giving up my favourite foods forever. Pasta and the occasional doughnut are definitely still on the menu. But I’ve learned the value of moderation—eating a balanced diet and making sure my body gets the nutrients it needs.
To maintain the benefits of the cleanse, I plan to start each day with a breakfast smoothie and a shot of green leafy juice. Both of these are great for long-term liver function and overall health. And if I need to, I’ll do an annual cleanse to keep my body in check.
Livers love green leafy vegetables, so here’s a simple juice recipe to support liver health:
- 1 cup baby spinach or kale
- 2 celery stalks
- 1 green apple
- A handful of parsley
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger
I’m pretty fussy, so I may not enjoy every sip, but blocking my nose and downing the juice has become part of the process. For those who aren’t as picky, you might actually enjoy the taste!
Pairing the Cleanse with a Gentle Skincare Routine
While my liver cleanse has done wonders for my skin, having the right skincare products has been just as important. That’s where Naturally COS’ Lemon Coulis Cream Face Cleanser comes in. This gentle, non-foaming cleanser works perfectly to remove impurities without stripping away the skin’s natural oils. It’s designed for sensitive and dehydrated skin, making it a fantastic addition to my daily routine. The lemon myrtle extract helps tackle excess sebum, leaving my skin perfectly balanced and ready for moisturiser.
Not only does it cleanse, but it also helps reduce acne inflammation and tightens the skin, giving it that refreshed, healthy glow. It’s become my go-to for a good, gentle cleanse, especially during hormonal cycles or periods of stress.
A Detoxifying Skin Boost
For those days when my skin needs a little extra care, I turn to the Detoxifying 2-in-1 Clay Masque. Loaded with acne-fighting lemon myrtle, green tea, and French clay, it’s perfect for detoxifying pores while rehydrating the skin with rose water. I like to use this masque a couple of times a week for a deeper cleanse, leaving my skin feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Don’t Forget the Lips!
Lastly, we can’t neglect our lips during a cleanse! Naturally COS’ Intense Lip Treatment is a lifesaver for dry, cracked lips. Made with natural ingredients like castor oil, shea butter, and raspberry seed extract, it repairs and hydrates lips, leaving them soft and plump. Whether you’re dealing with chapped lips from the cold or sun damage, this treatment is a must-have in your skincare routine.
Final Thoughts
Cleansing isn’t just about what you put into your body—it’s also about what you put on your skin. By incorporating natural, nourishing products into my daily routine, like the Lemon Coulis Cleanser, Detoxifying Masque, and Intense Lip Treatment, I’m seeing better results inside and out. Cleansing my liver was the first step toward feeling lighter, healthier, and more energised, and my skin is reaping the benefits too.
So, if your body or skin feels like it could use a good cleanse, I recommend giving it a go—you’ll feel the difference!
