Hello, friends! As the warm weather approaches, many of us find ourselves battling with our hair. I’m a curly girl myself, and some days, my curls cooperate beautifully, while other days, I feel like I’m sporting a cotton candy hairstyle.

Understanding Your Hair Needs

Over the years, I’ve learned what my hair truly needs to maximise those good hair days. After countless hours spent collaborating with hair stylists and diving deep into the science of hair follicles and strands, I’ve discovered what makes hair truly happy.

Regardless of whether your hair is straight, curly, wavy, oily, or dry, the key is hydration and health. Unfortunately, many of us unknowingly damage our hair through practices like bleaching, applying harsh chemicals, and using heated tools such as straighteners. Trust me, I’ve been there too. But the fantastic thing about hair care—and skin care, for that matter—is that there’s always a solution and help available.

A Focus on Scalp Health

Recently, I’ve been assisting a beauty therapist with her oily scalp, aiming to rejuvenate her scalp and promote stronger hair growth. What steps have I taken so far? I crafted an ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) wash. Instead of merely diluting ACV in distilled water, I researched some active extracts that could enhance her efforts. I’ll share those ingredients and a simple method at the end so you can try this out at home. Just remember to perform a patch test first to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions.

This ACV wash serves as an excellent reset for your scalp. It clarifies and works to eliminate excess oils, dirt, and product buildup that may be suffocating your follicles.

Hair-Loving Ingredients to Consider

So, what other hair-loving ingredients should you be on the lookout for? Aloe Vera is fantastic for imparting natural shine, supporting hair growth, and managing oily hair. Raspberry Leaf helps repair damaged hair, while Neem locks in moisture, and Vitamin B12 aids in producing oxygen-rich red blood cells, which nourish hair follicles.

Lastly, if you have a regular hairstylist, cherish them! They often care for your hair even more than you do. They know its ins and outs, its ups and downs, and will nurture it accordingly.

ACV Wash Recipe

Want the ingredients for my ACV wash? Here’s the recipe:

In a 250ml spray bottle, combine:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar – 2 tablespoons
  • Witch Hazel – 1 teaspoon
  • Chamomile Extract – 4 drops
  • Rose Water – 1 teaspoon
  • Fill with Distilled Water

This mixture serves as a rinse; leave it on your scalp for 2-5 minutes before rinsing well. Follow up with a nourishing conditioner. Always remember to perform a patch test before applying to ensure there are no reactions. I personally use organic ingredients, so keep in mind that your results may vary if you opt for non-organic options.
